The Color Purple

I finally read Alice Walker's The Color Purple. It was beautifully written and incredibly moving. I think every American should read this book, and I'm a little bit sad it took me this long. Now I want to see the movie version, though I'm sure it won't be as incredible as the book.

Some of the most beautiful, human emotion and understanding of the spiritual is in this book.

I'm so glad I finally got a library card.... it's already coming in very handy! Up next: Iris Murdoch's The Bell, The Complete Stories of Evelyn Waugh, and Jonathon Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Yay, summer!

You should read "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston
Alice Walker totally ripped it off. And I'm so excited you're going to read "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" because it's one of my favorites :) I see you so sooooon!

I've read Their Eyes Were Watching God! And it's really excellent.

While I was reading The Color Purple, it completely reminded me of the colloquial dialogue in Their Eyes Were Watching God. They're both really incredible books. I can't decide which one I like more. But, I'm really glad I've read both of them. =) I think my favorite part of Their Eyes Were Watching God is when she sees a picture of herself & the kids in the family she lives with, and she realizes she looks different. That was such an emotional moment in the book- subtle, but strong. You should check out The Color of Water... for a while I got confused and thought I'd read The Color Purple because of the similarity of the names.... but then I realized that they're different books. haha. But The Color of Water is also a really great book. Similar genre.

I love having a literature-major friend. =)

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU!!!!!
