The making of a perfect weekend:

Big Love.
J and I have already had lots of fun adventures: going for ice cream, outrunning a storm in the park, reading together at the library, coloring pretty pictures, Sonic drive-in snacks. Most recently we went to see the Nashville Children's Theatre's production of "Click Clack Moo: Cows that Type". It was a cute play, and J seemed to enjoy it. Then this weekend we went to the SPROUT garden party for The Nashville Food Project. J seemed very interested in the plants & she loved getting to eat black raspberries right off the bush. She had her face painted like a mermaid, and we decorated bricks together. She chased a big hen around the yard trying to feed it grass, and she marveled at the couple speaking sign language to one another. She isn't afraid to ask questions and learn more, and she has adorable theories: for instance, all farmers have gaps between their teeth (it's a prerequisite, I believe).
I am loving my role as a Big Sister and look forward to becoming even closer and more open with my Little. This week, she's coming over to my house to make dinner... and probably do a little finger-nail painting. :-)
| I wish I could post an actual picture of her. |

Rollercoaster Ride
So many different things to report!
Life has been a serious roller coaster lately, which has been really wearing me out. But I know there is meaning in all of it.
Today was a really bizarre day at work. We found out that one of our clients, who has been in the ICU, is being taken off of life support and transferred to hospice care. Also today, I managed to stay composed while I worked with a suicidal client to get him somewhere safe. It's actually surprising how solid I can become in those moments. And today we set loose a rehabilitated box turtle that my coworker & a client saved from the road a few months ago. It was a weird day of sadness mixed with a strange sense of hope for the future.
Some unrelated really happy news: yesterday I found out that I was matched with my Little! She sounds AMAZING, and I will be sure to tell you about her when we're officially matched.... She just has to give the okay once they tell her about me. I can't wait to meet her.
We also found out some other big news today (again, not pregnant), which we look forward to sharing with everyone soon.
There have been a LOT of emotions to deal with lately, and I have to say that I am so thankful to have Nathan to support me when my emotions get the best of me. Like an evening of pizza, cinnastix, and Con-Air (only the greatest action film of all time).

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Oh, where to start? I actually don't really have that much to say (that's a first). Nothing terribly exciting is happening at the Dryden household. Althou, there is one thing i'm pretty excited about...
I had a recent interview with Big Brothers Big Sisters because I've applied to be a Big Sister! I have a training in a couple of weeks, after which time they'll let me know if I've been accepted into the program. I've been dreaming of things to do with my little... Going to the park, baking cookies, doing crafts at my apartment, playing with the cats, going hiking, playing at the playground, painting our fingernails, watching movies, volunteering at the animal shelter (aka playing with puppies), lots & lots of conversations, helping her with her homework, and so many other fun things. Oh I really am so excited and eager to get my little! The whole process is very intentional, which I respect. They asked me a series of personal questions in my 2-hour interview, partly to make sure I'm safe & respectable enough to entrust with a child, and partly to find the best possible match. I'm glad there is so much energy and thought put into finding a Big for a Little and vice versa. I actually had the option of having a Little Brother because there simply aren't enough male volunteers. I have no problem with little boys, but part of what excites me about being a mentor is the challenge to empower and encourage a young girl and remind her what strength she has as a female. That's just not told to girls often enough, and the images/messages told to them instead can be seriously detrimental on individual and societal levels.
All that to say, I can't wait to be a Big Sister. It's an incredible organization, please check them out if you have some time to spare to empower a kid.
